another visit to the zoo...9.19

while we were waiting on the york's to arrive to pick us up (being the gas conscious people that we are trying to be--too expensive!!!) to carpool to the zoo, the kids got a little bored and strapped themselves into their carseats in the driveway! silly gooses! once we arrived at the zoo, we all had to take a potty break. the kids entertained themselves while we were waiting by playing in the water...
then they played follow the leader...
then in an attempt to get them AWAY from the water, i told them to see if they could hold hands and reach ALL the way around the pole...i had 4 takers...not too shabby...
drew attempting to watch the monkeys by looking OVER the fence...
realizing that looking UNDER then fence might be a better option...
of all the amazing animals at the memphis zoo, the kids were most fascinated by this worm in the middle of the sidewalk...he did put on quite a show wiggling around...
attempting to get a pic of the 3 amigos to take to school (they are all three together this year...yipee!)...

drew being a complete hambone...don't know where these huge grins are coming from lately...
drew showing mommy the orange flower...
again, with the kids and the water...
all 6 kids (basically) lined up watching the giraffes...i know the zoo is trying to beautify and all, but the new wooden fence posts are too high for the kids to see over compared to the old metal ugly ones...
griffin, drew, and anna leigh decided to take a break next to the giraffes...
the abandoned snowcone stand...now that school is in session, zoo amenities were slim pickin's...the two outpost back yard burger stands were closed as were the dippin' dots and hawaiian shaved ice...bummer!
the mean parents didn't let the kids ride the carousel...so they all lined up and watched...
our zoo trip ended rather abruptly when the downpour came! of course, the kids thought it was AWESOME that we were at the zoo and it was raining! we were actually in the main back yard burger building eating lunch when the floods started, so we just camped out there a little longer than we normally would have. we walked to the cars in a little drizzle. just enough to get us all a little wet! it was a really fun and tiring morning!!!
