party at the jenkins' house...9.19

after a big morning at the zoo, we were scheduled for a big night out as a family at the jenkin's house...that is, until the most worn out, exhausted 2 year old in my family decided that naptime was for jumping, singing, and definitely NOT sleeping!!! so, drew and mommy (exhausted herself from walking all over the memphis zoo while 34 weeks pregnant) stayed home while sarah and daddy had a date night to the jenkin's! from the pictures tim took, it looks like EVERYONE had a great night!!! the herrington's and york's came over too! making for huge group! anna leigh and sarah...
miss alison helping sarah roast her marshmallow (her very first ever!)...
i don't think you can tell unless you click on the above pic to enlarge it, but sarah already has marshmallow on her nose...while roasting another...
the fumes from the flames made for some very interesting pictures...
mac and amy hung a disco ball and christmas lights in their playhouse in the backyard...the kids (especially sarah--she's ALWAYS dancing and singing) danced around like crazy!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
around 10:30, i finally gave up waiting and went to bed. a very tired little sarah came into my room a few minutes later to tell me how much fun she had at anna leigh's house! boy, sarah gets to stay out late when she's out with just daddy! i guess not having little brother along was a plus too! sarah is still talking about how much fun she had that night!
p.s. drew, the COMPLETELY overtired child was put down for the night at 6:30...he STILL sang and talked for over an hour before going to bed. oh, he is hard-headed...i wonder where he gets that?!?

another visit to the zoo...9.19

while we were waiting on the york's to arrive to pick us up (being the gas conscious people that we are trying to be--too expensive!!!) to carpool to the zoo, the kids got a little bored and strapped themselves into their carseats in the driveway! silly gooses! once we arrived at the zoo, we all had to take a potty break. the kids entertained themselves while we were waiting by playing in the water...
then they played follow the leader...
then in an attempt to get them AWAY from the water, i told them to see if they could hold hands and reach ALL the way around the pole...i had 4 takers...not too shabby...
drew attempting to watch the monkeys by looking OVER the fence...
realizing that looking UNDER then fence might be a better option...
of all the amazing animals at the memphis zoo, the kids were most fascinated by this worm in the middle of the sidewalk...he did put on quite a show wiggling around...
attempting to get a pic of the 3 amigos to take to school (they are all three together this year...yipee!)...

drew being a complete hambone...don't know where these huge grins are coming from lately...
drew showing mommy the orange flower...
again, with the kids and the water...
all 6 kids (basically) lined up watching the giraffes...i know the zoo is trying to beautify and all, but the new wooden fence posts are too high for the kids to see over compared to the old metal ugly ones...
griffin, drew, and anna leigh decided to take a break next to the giraffes...
the abandoned snowcone stand...now that school is in session, zoo amenities were slim pickin's...the two outpost back yard burger stands were closed as were the dippin' dots and hawaiian shaved ice...bummer!
the mean parents didn't let the kids ride the carousel...so they all lined up and watched...
our zoo trip ended rather abruptly when the downpour came! of course, the kids thought it was AWESOME that we were at the zoo and it was raining! we were actually in the main back yard burger building eating lunch when the floods started, so we just camped out there a little longer than we normally would have. we walked to the cars in a little drizzle. just enough to get us all a little wet! it was a really fun and tiring morning!!!

the pressgrove's 50th wedding anniversary party...9.13

aunt marcell and uncle therrell's kids threw them a huge bash to celebrate 50 years of marriage! and, they made the party a 50's themed party since that's the decade in which they were married! sarah and drew definitely dressed the part. sarah rocked her pink poodle skirt while drew pulled off his jeans and white tee with slicked back hair. although, i thought drew looked a lot more like eddie munster than a 50's boy! both kids had lots of fun even though the party was in the middle of nap time!

family movie night...9.5

one friday night when we had TWO well rested kids from long naps, tim and i decided we would pick up some take out, get out all the blankets and pillows, and all hunker down in the playroom to eat dinner and watch a movie. the kids ended up eating their food in the car on the way home, but we still all enjoyed bowl after bowl after bowl of popcorn while we watched shrek two on our pallets. drew and the dogs weren't too impressed with the whole sch-bang, but sarah thought it was SO COOL that we were all on blankets watching a movie together past her bedtime!

a mommy and drew-boo date...children's museum...9.3

a bit of explanation: this year, sarah is going to school THREE days a week, tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. drew is going to school TWO days a week, tuesday and thursday. so, until baby jacob gets here in a few weeks, i am trying to do REALLY fun stuff just drew and me on wednesdays. on sarah's 2nd day of school, drew and i headed off to the children's museum with our buddies miss mary and ava for "mommy and drew's day of fun!"drew modelling the airline pilot jacket...just like poppy!

doing the flight simulator...well, playing near the flight simulator :)
fishin' with ava

the kids put on quite the little performance on stage in their costumes...ugh, those nasty ole costumes make me cringe :(

we enjoyed a gourmet lunch of domino's pizza :)
our children's museum is hosting an exhibit on curious george. drew really enjoyed having a new area to explore...

the first day of school...9.2

sarah was a willing participant in first day of school photos...drew, not so much...

drew meeting his teacher, miss jill, at the door to his new TWO year old room...
sarah looking TOO OLD walking down the hall to her new room...
sarah meeting her new teacher, mrs. watkins at the door of her FOUR year old room...
wo-hoo! griffin is in our class this year!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
at the end of sarah and drew's first day of school, they were in for a BIG treat! thanks to bad boy gustav, most of my mom's family was in town escaping the hurricane. so, they ALL came to see the kids at the end of the day! mimi, poppy bill, g.g., papa vick, aunt annie, jacob, seth, brady (our very favorite fake cousin), and chelsea were all on hand to celebrate our successful first day of school!!! we went to mimi's house after school to eat strawberry cake and visit!
p.s. look how much the kids have grown...here...and here...and here...and note that when sarah was entering her 2 year old year of preschool, she was just as happy for pictures as drew was this year :) like sister, like brother...more like, 2 year olds are ornery!!!
